SONGS OF THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS
The Snowy Mountains Scheme brought together over 100,000 people from more than 30 different countries, including Australia, to work on what is recognised as one of the greatest engineering projects in the world.
In the days when the great Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme was taking shape as one of the world's great engineering feats, an Irishman, Ulick O'Boyle who was a concrete worker on the Scheme, set down in song his impressions of the places, the people and the work that was being done. To perform the songs he had written, he formed a singing group from among his fellow workers.

THE GROUP – 'THE SETTLERS'
Ulick O'Boyle's songs reflect tragedy, comedy and in some cases bitter irony. They have the character that goes to make true folk lore and the folk song.
One can marvel at the wistful sadness of 'Jindabyne Farewell', 'Young Jack Frost – Texan' and 'Jack Bridle's Farewell'; the gripping tragedy of 'The Ballard of Big Pedro' and 'The Dozer Driver Man', the bitterness of 'Paddy Went Home in the Rain', the sly sarcasm of 'Snow Kitten' and the rollicking comedy of 'The Cooma Cavaliers', just to mention a few.
But underlying these and the other songs of the album is a feeling of admiration for the people from many nations who came together and built the Snowy Mountains Scheme and made it one of the wonders of the world. To these people, their work and the place where they worked, these songs are dedicated.
